It might be a stretch for people to believe that could happen in the United States, but the technology is already so prevalent that states are starting to attempt to regulate it.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has helped fund a wonderful technology which would give you a tattoo to show your vaccination status. He is on record as in favor of implanting the population with digital certificates:

A biometric ID system, created by taking 10 fingerprints, retinal scans, and digital pictures of a person’s face, called Aadhaar, is already rolled out in India. The Aadhaar system is required to make tax payments, for buying train tickets, and has its own payment app.

A similar system is being tested in Africa:

“COVI-PASS will determine whether you can go to a restaurant, if you need a medical test, or are due for a talking-to by authorities in a post-COVID world. Consent is voluntary, but enforcement will be compulsory.”
So everyone has an all-in-one card that links used for payment, identification, and health history. If your health history isn’t what they want it to be (you haven’t been vaccinated, for example), the authorities can flag you or cut you off from being able to pay. This is only possible if cash doesn’t exist anymore. They’re already working on that:

If they want to move people away from cash, that could explain why we now have a “coin shortage” even though the US Mint is “on track to mint more coins this year than we have produced in almost 20 years.” Elimination of cash will eliminate the secondary economy. No more garage sales, no more paying your friend under the table. No more buying things from each other. All transactions go through them and their system, and if they don’t authorize the transaction, you can’t buy it. Plus they get their transactional cuts and fees.

Here’s a nice bill which would allocate a hundred billion dollars annually to power the incredibly invasive and completely unnecessary contact tracing. Do any taxpayers want to see their dollars used to fund the mass surveillance and tracking of everything they do?
I wonder, will political dissidents be more likely to be “contact traced” and then indefinitely detained? Our Justice Department, for our own good, of course, has requested they be able to indefinitely detain citizens without trial during this state of emergency which appears to be at least semi-permanent. When was the last time you heard someone mention ending it?

Maybe the military will get involved too! Our good friend Obama in 2012 signed a bill into law that authorized the indefinite detention of civilians by the US military, including U.S. citizens, without habeas corpus or due process, after all.
